Session description

Facilitators:

  • Louis Downing, Director Standard Development, GIB Foundation, Basel, Switzerland
  • Katharina Schneider Roos, Deputy Executive Director, GIB Foundation, Basel, Switzerland
  • Roman Mendle, Smart Cities Program Manager, ICLEI World Secretariat, Bonn, Germany

Inputs:

  • TAP cities representatives from: Recife and Curitiba, Brazil; Rajkot, India; Ekurhuleni, South Africa; Bogotá, Colombia and Catbalogan, the Philippines.

The Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB), the Transformative Action Programme (TAP), and select city representatives will present a series of lessons learnt from work done to promote sustainable, resilient and transformative infrastructure projects. GIB and TAP will draw experiences in assessing and enhancing the sustainability and resilience of infrastructure projects in cities around the world. In this session, we will introduce two tools used to evaluate projects: the GIB SmartScan and the SuRe Standard for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure; to discuss what indicators can be used by cities to determine the impact of their infrastructure projects. We will then look at a series of case studies and real examples of the common risks and improvements required to enhance infrastructure projects.
