Organized in cooperation with RUAF Foundation and technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

This session will showcase how different cooperation mechanisms and processes can be used to foster exchanges of good practices, experiences and knowledge on urban food systems between cities. Cities have clearly demonstrated the need for such exchanges, especially in relation to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The demand for city networks to foster cooperation and partnership among cities has been emphasized in previous gatherings and through direct engagement with local governments.

The ICLEI-RUAF CITYFOOD network will play a key role in promoting knowledge exchange and cooperation on urban food system good practices. CITYFOOD will work in close collaboration with other actors such as the FAO’s city-to-city initiative that aims to provide technical support to cities and existing city networks.

This session will gather cities already participating or interested in the CITYFOOD network, many of which are also signatory cities to the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, to mark the operational start of the CITYFOOD network. The session will facilitate an exchange among member cities and establish a working relationship with them on urban food security and food systems in view of the implementation of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
