EPIC-N Training Opportunity

On 3rd May 2017, the Resilient Cities 2017 Forum hosted a unique opportunity for collaborating pairs of individuals representing municipal governments and nearby universities, to receive training on the EPIC-N model.

The EPIC-N model (Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network) is a community service-based model designed to address the broad spectrum of sustainability-related information and knowledge needs of local governments and communities by systematically matching city needs with university capacity in ways that benefit all parties, with lasting and sustainable impacts for all involved. The model has thus far shown itself to be elegantly simple yet powerful and effective in practice, and seems fully customizable to local circumstances elsewhere. Based on its successes in the U.S.A., the partners are excited to promote the adoption of this model internationally, with an initial emphasis on expansion into communities within Asia, Latin America (including Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean), and Africa.

Participants of the Resilient Cities Congress had the opportunity to join this free training as an observer by selecting the dedicated box in the registration form.

Registration was subject to confirmation and handled on a first come first served basis with priority given to UNFCCC representatives, local governments and universities.

The EPIC-N Training was organized and supported by the epic-network, ICMA, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the National Science Foundation, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES), the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN), the Global Adaptation Network, UN Environment, the Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI) of the University of Oregon as well as the sage Project of San Diego State University.
